Who We Are
The Upholstered Furniture Action Council (UFAC), a not-for-profit industry organization founded in 1978, administers the Make Life Safer program using independent accredited test laboratories. Since the program’s inception, household fires from smoldering ignition have been reduced substantially. According to the latest figures there has been a 79.3% decline in the number of upholstered furniture fires from smoking-material ignition. UFAC is proud of the part it has played in making life safer for American consumers.
In addition to smolder ignition safety, the Make Life Safer plus verification program addresses concerns about common flame retardants that may be used in the home. The Make Life Safer plus program uses state-of-the-art test methods developed by university scientists and other experts in detecting flame retardants. Furniture with the Make Life Safer tag is verified as meeting these stringent requirements.
